Davis’ broken-bat hit leads Giants to 3-2 victory over Nationals (AP)
An awful sound, something like a broken plastic bat hitting a whiffle ball, echoed throughout RFK Stadium when Rajai Davis made contact against starter Tim Redding in the second inning. Yet the ball dribbled past third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who was playing in because of Davis’ speed, and down the left-field line for a double.

Kevin Correia had his longest outing as a starter in more than two years, and Rajai Davis’ broken-bat double capped a three-run second inning Friday night in the San Francisco Giants’ 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals. Making his third start since being moved into the rotation, Correia (3-6) allowed two runs over six innings.

Online bidding begins for Bonds’ historic home run balls (AP)
Electronic bidding began Tuesday for Barry Bonds’ 755th and 756th home-run balls, with the price for the record-breaker starting at $100,000. Sotheby’s/SCP Auctions is handling sales of the balls Bonds hit to tie and break Hank Aaron’s home-run record. Bidding closes Sept. 15, when the winning offer is to be announced.

Rich Aurilia singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the second straight day as the San Francisco Giants won their fifth straight, a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.
